IB Spanish Tutoring — What We Cover

Every IB Spanish student has different strengths, gaps, and goals. Whether you’re just starting out on the IB Spanish ab initio course or pushing for a 7 at Higher Level, Jemima tailors every session to where you are and where you need to get to.

IB Spanish Ab Initio

Ab initio is designed for students with little or no prior Spanish experience. Jemima builds your foundations systematically — vocabulary, grammar structures, reading comprehension, listening, and the basics of written and spoken production — while making the learning enjoyable and culturally rich from day one.

IB Spanish Standard Level (SL)

At SL, students need to develop genuine communicative competence across all four skills. Sessions cover:

  • Thematic vocabulary (identities, experiences, ingenuity, sharing the planet, social organisation)
  • Grammar consolidation — tenses, subjunctive, complex sentence structures
  • Paper 1 reading comprehension strategies
  • Paper 2 written tasks — letters, essays, blog posts, reports
  • Individual Oral preparation — cultural stimulus analysis and conversation practice

IB Spanish Higher Level (HL)

HL demands a higher degree of linguistic accuracy, cultural depth, and literary analysis. Sessions cover:

  • Literary text analysis — character, theme, stylistic features
  • Film and cultural commentary
  • Higher-level written tasks with sophisticated register and argumentation
  • Individual Oral — choosing the right cultural reference, structuring your response, managing nerves
  • Paper 1 and Paper 2 exam technique

IB Spanish Extended Essay

Writing an Extended Essay in Spanish is an exciting but demanding challenge. Jemima can guide you through topic selection, research planning, structuring a sustained academic argument, and proofreading your final draft to a high standard.

Exam Technique & Results

As a practising Spanish examiner, Jemima knows precisely what earns marks — and what loses them. Students regularly improve by a full grade boundary or more after consistent sessions.

How Sessions Work

Sessions are online, one-to-one, and typically one hour long. Lessons are varied — grammar, reading, speaking, listening and writing are woven together naturally rather than tackled in isolated blocks.

£60 per hour. No upfront payment. Book and pay as you go.
