I’m Jemima, an experienced, qualified language teacher and examiner with a lifelong passion for Spanish, Latin American culture, and helping students achieve their best.
My Background
I studied Social Anthropology and Spanish at the University of Edinburgh, before completing my PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages (11–18) at the University of Sussex. I spent 15 years living and working in Spain and South America — tutoring, interpreting, and conducting anthropological fieldwork in Colombia and Ecuador — and I now have family in Chile and Argentina. That immersion gave me a truly native-level command of the language and a deep understanding of its cultures.
Teaching Career
I have been a qualified teacher for 16 years, teaching Spanish at all secondary levels — from Common Entrance through to A Level and IB Higher Level. I served as Head of Spanish at a leading independent school and as Subject Lead at a sixth-form college, covering all major exam boards. I’m also a practising examiner for Spanish public exams, which means I know exactly what examiners are looking for when they mark your papers and listen to your orals.
I now focus on delivering personalised 1-to-1 online tutoring, which I find enormously rewarding. Every student is different — I take time to identify each person’s learning profile, build on their strengths, and work through any challenges using tried-and-tested strategies.

My Approach
My lessons combine grammar, speaking, listening, reading and writing in a seamless and enjoyable way. I believe in identifying where a student is, meeting them there, and building from that point. I’m patient, encouraging, and highly organised, and I bring genuine enthusiasm to every session.
